Density Done Right

Greater Pittsburgh is one of the more affordable places in the country. But it isn’t uniform: certain parts of the region have much higher home prices than the regional average. These places should be densified to allow more people, of more incomes, to live in more desirable areas. But many people, when they hear density, assume it means high-rise apartments and condos. In reality, there is a huge variety of density in Greater Pittsburgh, even in primarily single-family neighborhoods, and envisioning what higher density really looks like can be key in creating more affordable and diverse communities.

This resource will help identify which communities aren’t pulling their weight, what a more affordable level of density could look like, what barriers are in the way of creating more affordable housing, and how they can be overcome.
